Signing players before end of year

I have a question about signing players before the end of the season. There are 3 players I would like to sign, but don't have cap room for this year. I have many millions for next year. Since all current year money due is paid, I shouldn't need to pay out anything for the current year. Question-If I sign them right before the "end of year sim" does the overage just roll over to next year, or do I take a hit for being over this year?
Thanks for the help!

I have a similar question I am hoping someone will help answer.
I also noticed that when I went to sign players before the year is up it looks like they will get paid for that season twice.

If you do not have cap room to sign them under the current season, which ends after the Championship game, then you cannot sign them until the next season. If you release some players before the end of the season, you might free up some cap space and be able to sign them within the current season. But even if you do sign them, the current season will count towards a signing. For instance, if you signed the people to a 1 year contract within the season, they will not automatically renegotiate a contract at the end of a season. Or if you sign them to a 2 year contract with one game to go in the current season, for instance, then they will only be around for the next season.
I suggest wait until the free agent signing period

This is wrong, you can sign guys between the league championship game and the end of season roll over without it having any effect on the salary cap for the current season.
